This is our beautiful Gracie. She was diagnosed with Leukaemia in July 2014. She responded brilliantly to treatment. As with most kids with Leukaemia treatment is very intense for the first 12 months and then hopefully remission and maintenance treatment for another 2 years. There is lots and lots of visits to hospital and for a kid that likes to have fun it can be rather boring!
Gracie was winning her fight with Leukaemia in 2015. Thanks to the amazing and dedicated staff at The Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne and Gracie's drive to get better. But whilst in the last week of intense treatment due to the chemotherapy Gracie had no immune system. She came down with an infection was admitted to hospital.
Once in hospital she came down with another which took her to ICU and then in ICU she came down with a final infection . She fought them all off and fought so hard but in the end her body was too tired. She had won the marathon and crossed the finish line but she was too tired to stand back up.
Gracie is now in heaven. She had 6 beautiful and busy years on earth with us. We are sure she is still dancing and singing and having lots of fun in heaven with the Angels. She shines down on us, our strong, brave and fun little girl - a genuine fighter, our little hero.
Her light and brightness will shine forever in her legacy - to always have fun!
She inspired and assisted the creation of the hugely successful Gracies Gift Foundation - 'Shoebox Full Of Fun' Programme. This empathy and gifting teaching program creates gift filled shoeboxes full of fun for children receiving treatment for cancer in hospital. \
The program started in 2014 at Gracies very own Primary School whilst she was still here with us. Gracie was in the newspapers and was so happy to help me (her Mama) hand out the filled shoeboxes full of fun directly to the children in their hospital beds - whilst she herself was in hospital receiving treatment!

Hundreds of Shoeboxes Full of Fun have been filled and gifted to children in hospitals across Melbourne. Unfortunately there has been a record number of new diagnoses of childhood cancers. Treatment for childhood cancer is a long road with many ups and downs. Across Victoria so many children get so bored sitting in their hospital beds, especially in the school holidays and weekends when there is nothing to do. Imagine the joy and entertainment a simple box full of fun can provide. Imagine giving the gift of fun to a child whom really deserves it.
Whilst I - Nikki (Gracies very pround mama) continues to direct this programme and some information is available on this website on the following tab, I am very proud to announce that The KOALA Kids Foundation has kindly offered to run this programme day to day for me.
